Ernie Ball Music Man has announced a limited run of a short scale version of their StingRay bass. The 2019 Short Scale StingRay Special is a passive bass that has a 30-inch scale for easier playability.
The bass is built with an ash body, hard rock maple neck, and either a maple or rosewood fingerboard. Its electronics are the key to keeping the bass sound thumpy.
“The Ernie Ball Music Man humbucking pickup has been specially designed for the short scale bass with higher output neodymium magnets, providing a warm signature tone,” the company writes. “Electronics package includes a 3-way rotary switch featuring parallel, true single coil, and series modes. All three pickup selections can be augmented by a passive bass boost found by engaging a push volume pot.”
