For 2019, Gibson has returned to their roots with refined versions of many of the electric guitars that have defined them as an American icon and an essential source of great guitar tone. The 2019 Les Paul Standard stands out as a pinnacle of this rebirth, combining the best of the classic Les Paul elements with features that are aimed directly at the modern guitarist who seeks the capacity for greater versatility.

Finishes designed to make guitars sound better

One of the first things you'll notice about these instruments, built in Gibson's Nashville factory, is the stunning finishes. Using traditional nitrocellulose lacquers for a thin, breathable finish, Gibson's master craftspeople carefully spray and over-spray to create spectacular looks, like the Blueberry Burst finish being worked on here. A lighter, breathable finish is one of many factors that help guitars become more resonant and better sounding as they age. Since a Gibson is a guitar you're likely to buy and keep, that's good to know.

80 years of pickup expertise

Gibson pickups and electronics are legendary. From the "Charlie Christian" pickup to P90s, PAFs and modern variants, they've helped define popular music for most of the past century.  Gibson USA pickups are wound and assembled in the factory and carefully tested. The 2019 LP Standard features Gibson's High Performance (HP) electronics with a user-adjustable DIP switch in the control cavity to change the function of the push/pull volume and tone knobs. Whether you want phase reverse, coil split, coil select or a variety of other options, you can customize the controls to work exactly the way you want.

Gibson still assembles and adjusts guitars by hand in Nashville. From setting the neck to trimming the binding, from fretwork to final sanding and shaping, there's always a skilled craftsperson at work. Gibson is devoted to giving each instrument individual attention, right down to finally plugging it in and playing it as part of a coordinated, company-wide quality-control regimen. That familiar Gibson hangtag doesn't go on until they're satisfied that you'll be satisfied.
