Multi-instrumentalist Rex Brown is famous for his work with legendary metal bands Pantera and Down, and his hard-rocking solo album, Smoke on This… Epiphone is proud to release the first Epiphone Rex Brown signature model in partnership with the legendary musician. The Epiphone Rex Brown Thunderbird™ Bass features a 9-ply neck-through-body mahogany and walnut neck with a C-shape profile, mahogany body wings, and a standard 34” scale length. It is powered by a pair of Epiphone ProBucker™ 760 bass pickups, which feature nickel covers that complement the otherwise all-gold hardware. The passive electronics have two volume controls and a master tone control that feature smooth CTS® potentiometers. The gold pickguard bears the famous Thunderbird logo, and on the back of the headstock, Rex’s signature is reproduced, while the rear control cover features a Rex Brown logo doodle. A hardshell case is also included.

Stable tuning and easy adjustability are provided by the Tune-o-matic bass bridge, and the harp tailpiece adds a touch of Guild’s classic aesthetic, likening the bass to its upright ancestors. Guild’s own BC-1 BiCoil pickups adorn the bass, complete with hum resistant nickel covers and Alnico 5 magnet construction. Combined with the woody nature of semi-hollowbody tone and the volume and tone control, these pickups allow the player to dial in anything from modern, cutting bass tones to wooly, round, vintage tones. Only a year after its debut, the Jazz Bass received a new control configuration in 1961 that featured a volume knob for each pickup and a master tone knob—a classic control arrangement that endures to this day. The 1961 Jazz Bass Heavy Relic is a faithful recreation of the time-honored original, with a few custom features prized by players worldwide. The two-piece alder body, hand selected for weight and grain, wears a Heavy Relic lacquer finish. The quartersawn maple neck features a ’60-style Jazz Bass “U” profile, topped by a 9.5”-radius flat-lam rosewood fingerboard with 20 medium jumbo frets for comfort and perfect action along the entire length of the neck.
As with the now-familiar control arrangement that first appeared in mid 1961, the hand-wound vintage Jazz bass pickups each have their own volume control, with a master tone knob. Other features include a four-ply brown shell pickguard, vintage-style bass bridge with threaded steel saddles, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and disk string tree. Also includes deluxe hardshell case, strap, string mutes and certificate of authenticity.
