On stage or in the studio the AKG D 112 Kick Drum Mic is the microphone to use to clean up the dirty low down. Stays free of distortion even at high sound pressure levels. Solid and powerful response below 100Hz. Very low diaphragm resonance, relatively narrow-band rising high-frequency response at 4kHz, and extremely robust construction are other outstanding features. Also works great for bass cabs, trombone, and other low-frequency instruments.
Channel Strips of the Stars: Ronan Chris Murphy
World-class producer/engineer/mixer Ronan Chris Murphy's credits include King Crimson, Steve Morse, Terry Bozzio, Victor Bisetti, Gregg Bissonette, Tony Levin, and projects with members of Tool, Ministry, Weezer, Dishwalla, and Yes. A huge fan of A Designs Audio, Ronan was kind enough to share some of his drum-recording signal chains:
"Well all of the drums for Terry Bozzio's Jazz trio were recorded with all A Designs Audio solid state preamps. For drum overheads I used Shure KSM32 condenser mics (#270141) into a Pacifica; for kick drums, AKG D112s into A Designs Pacificas (189903). (I prefer the Shure Beta 52 (#270267) for kick but they (D112s) were pre-mounted inside Terry's (Bozzio) kick drums. Actually I have used the Shure KSM32 into Pacifica combo on tons of great drummers, including Terry Bozzio, Victor Bisetti (Los Lobos), Gregg Bissonette (Santana, David Lee Roth), and Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson, Mister Mister, The Rembrandts)."

The D12 VR is a large-diaphragm cardioid dynamic microphone. Designed specifically for kick-drum recording applications, the microphone has a thin diaphragm to enhance the low frequency performance. Its predecessors have been the industry standard in kick drum mics for decades. The D12 and subsequently the D12E and the D112 have been the choice of drummers and the live sound engineers who love them since 1950.
Without phantom power, the microphone delivers the pure character of the sound source. With phantom power enabled, one of three switchable active-filter presets can be used to quickly adapt the microphone response to suit the desired kick-drum sound. The filter setting can be controlled using a switch on the microphone body. In this mode the output level is also reduced by 10 dB automatically.
Check it out. The latest version of a classic. It has retained the attributes of the original but taken advantage of modern innovations. Vintage and modern have just met up, and they have done so in front of the kick drum head.

The Artist Series ATM250DE dual-element instrument microphone features cardioid condenser and hypercardioid dynamic capsules combined in a single housing.
Audio-Technica's innovative use of two polar patterns is ideal for kick drum: the hypercardioid dynamic element focuses tightly on the aggressive attack of the beater, while the condenser captures the round tonalities of the shell. The elements are positioned in a perfect phase relationship, something practically impossible to achieve with two separate microphones. Not just for kick drum, Metallica is now using the ATM250DE in concert, on all guitar cabs, and it's also stellar on bass amps.
Includes a professional isolation clamp to provide secure mounting, versatile positioning and effective dampening of unwanted mechanical noise.

Audio-Technica's System 10 is a digital high-fidelity wireless system designed to provide performing musicians and presenters with advanced 24-bit operation, easy setup and clear, natural sound quality. Operating in the 2.4 GHz range, far from TV and DTV interference, System 10 offers extremely easy operation and instantaneous channel selection. Up to eight channels may be used together without any frequency coordination problems or group selection issues. System 10 receivers and transmitters offer an easy-to-read digital ID display.
System 10 wireless ensures clear communications by providing three levels of diversity assurance: frequency, time, and space. Frequency Diversity sends the signal on two dynamically allocated frequencies for interference-free communication. Time Diversity sends the signal in multiple time slots to maximize immunity to multipath interference. Finally, Space Diversity uses two antennas on each transmitter and receiver to maximize signal integrity.

The ABS system is quickest and easiest way to amplify your banjo or resonator guitar. It combines a dynamic microphone (with the versatile cardioid pattern) and a compact gooseneck coupled to a shock mounted adjustable bracket that has no exposed wiring. The ABS reliably captures the sound of your banjo or reso-guitar at the precise spot you prefer for the tone you're after, without the annoyance of extraneous vibrations. ABS can be moved from one instrument to another in seconds and includes a stomp-box preamp (our 9-volt-powered ABS-2). A footswitch can increase gain (volume) to punch out lead breaks. An AC adapter is available (ABS-ADT). Connection to the sound system or amp is via standard 1/4" guitar cable; two cables are required for connection with preamp and amplifier. ABS comes in a hard plastic carrying case with fitted foam inserts for the mic and pedal.
The ABS-C combines a condenser microphone with a compact gooseneck coupled to a shock mounted adjustable bracket that has no exposed wiring. This mic requires phantom power from your sound system, acoustic amp, or an add-on box (available from several different sources such as Rapco, Horizon, Peavey etc.) and includes a three-pin cable. The ABS-C accurately captures the sound of your banjo or reso-guitar at the precise spot you prefer for the tone you're after, without the annoyance of extraneous vibrations. ABS-C can be moved from one instrument to another in seconds and comes in a hard plastic carrying case with fitted foam inserts. Please note: the ABS-2 preamp is not compatible with the ABS-C.
