Some musicians connect with one model over another, and many gravitate toward particular model-year eras because of shifts in color options, pickup choices, subtle feature differences (such as pickguards, inlays, and plastics), and changing neck profiles. Our Les Paul™M Standard 50 and 60s models have resonated with players for exactly that reason, offering a way to choose the feel and features that suit them best. With that same philosophy in mind, we're now extending this approach to ES-335™ enthusiasts with the release of the ES-335 50s and ES-335 60s.

The ES-335 60s captures the essential characteristics of early 1960s ES-335 instruments. Its semi-hollow, thinline body is constructed from three-ply maple, poplar, and maple, paired with a solid maple centerblock that enhances sustain while significantly minimizing feedback. Single-ply cream binding along the top and back adds a refined visual touch.

True to the early 60s originals, the mahogany neck features the Slim Taper ™ profile, offering a sleeker, faster feel than the thicker Rounded C profile found on the ES-335 50s. The bound rosewood fretboard includes 22 medium jumbo frets and small block acrylic inlays, delivering the familiar look of classic 60s ES-335 models.

High-quality Grover® Rotomatic® tuners with milk bottle buttons work seamlessly with the Graph Tech® nut to ensure exceptional tuning stability. A mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay adorn the headstock.

At the opposite end of the strings, an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic ™ bridge and aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece contribute to the guitar's excellent sustain and offer full control over action height and individual intonation adjustments.

A pair of calibrated T-Type humbucker™ pickups with Alnico 5 magnets powers the ES-335 60s, delivering the unmistakable character of vintage Gibson T-Top humbucker™M tones. Each pickup connects to its own hand-wired 500k volume and tone controls, and together with the three-way toggle switch, they provide the broad tonal palette that has defined the ES-335 for generations.

A five-ply, 60s-style pickguard, along with black Top Hat knobs featuring reflectors and dial pointers, completes the period-inspired aesthetic. Available in Vintage Burst, Sixties Cherry, and Dark Walnut gloss nitrocellulose finishes, the ES-335 60s ships with a Gibson hardshell case. In early 1965, the original Firebird™ design transitioned through several different iterations. One of the significant transitions that occurred flipped the headstock to the “Non-Reverse” shape. Unlike the original Reverse Firebird headstock design, which featured a two-layered headstock with a holly veneer, the new headstock was flat, like the bill of a platypus. The Platypus-style Firebird featured six-in-line tuners rather than the banjo-style tuners that were used on previous Firebird models. The Firebird Platypus pays tribute to those rare transitional models. It features a mahogany body with a glued-in, set neck and the appearance of a traditional neck-through Reverse Firebird body. The mahogany neck has a fast-playing SlimTaper™ profile and a rosewood fretboard with a 12” radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and acrylic trapezoid inlays and sports the Platypus-style headstock with a Graph Tech® nut and Grover® Mini Rotomatic® tuners. The Gibson J-160E is a legendary model, and for many players, it needs no introduction, but for players who may be unfamiliar with its history, it is most closely associated with The Beatles, who used the model extensively, including on their landmark first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and on many of the recordings from the first half of their career. The J-160E was first introduced in 1954 as the second Gibson acoustic model to feature onboard electronics (after the CF-100E, which was released in 1951), in the form of a coverless P-90 pickup mounted through the top, just below the end of the fretboard. While it has a round shoulder shape similar to the Southern Jumbo and J-45™, it was designed from the beginning as a dual-purpose model that could function both electrically and acoustically, with somewhat more emphasis placed on its electrical performance.

Now, Gibson is very proud to introduce the J-160E Original, a new model based on those vintage classics, enhanced with upgrades and improvements that make it better than ever, in both its acoustic and electric performance. It features a back and sides made from solid mahogany. Instead of the laminated top and ladder bracing used on vintage models, the J-160E Original features a solid Sitka spruce top that is reinforced with our traditional scalloped X-bracing for a full, round shoulder acoustic tone when played unplugged. The mahogany neck has a comfortable and fast-playing SlimTaper™ profile and is attached to the body at the 15th fret using our compound dovetail neck-to-body joint, and like all Gibson acoustic guitars, it is fitted with hot hide glue for maximum resonance and tonal transfer. The bound rosewood fretboard is equipped with 20 standard frets and dressed up with pearloid trapezoid inlays. The belly-up bridge is also rosewood and is equipped with a bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins. The nut is also bone, and nickel Gotoh® Keystone tuners ensure fast, accurate, and stable tuning so you can spend more time playing and less time tuning.

Like its vintage predecessors, the J-160E Original is equipped with a pickup, but instead of the P-90 found in previous versions, the J-160 Original features a P-90 DC pickup that is wired to top-mounted master volume and tone controls, both of which feature 60s-style gold Top Hat knobs with silver reflectors, and wired to a side-mounted output jack. The P-90 DC delivers the classic P-90 tone but without the hum, for improved, noise-free electrified performance.
