The world’s most recognizable guitars are defined by more than tone. Their shape and colors can be just as enduring as their sound. For generations, guitar makers and players have looked to the road for colors that give instruments character and identity.

For this limited-edition Silver Sky, that tradition gets personal.

This colorway started with Mayer’s own Arles Blue Defender – a color that felt just as compelling on a guitar as it did on the vehicle that inspired it. From Mayer’s vintage 4x4, a palette of four heritage finishes were chosen: Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red, and Sandglow Yellow. Some of Defender’s most memorable colorways pair vibrant body colors with a contrasting black or white roof. That signature use of contrast also helped shape the design language of the Defender Color Collection.

This run is limited to just 500 guitars in each color and 2,000 total worldwide, and the color doesn’t stop at the body. Each instrument boasts a matching painted headstock – a distinctive detail reserved for select limited-edition Silver Sky models. Each Silver Sky Defender also comes in an ATA molded case with a custom “DEFENDER” badge and features a unique neck plate inscribed with its color name and “1 of 500,” marking its place in this limited run.

Underneath these new colors is the Silver Sky players know: an instrument developed by John Mayer and PRS around the sound, feel, and response of the vintage guitars that inspired it, refined through PRS design and craftsmanship.

Color has always been part of the Silver Sky story. This time, the inspiration was parked a little closer to home.

The Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition is offered in Defender’s heritage colors (with white pickguards and control knobs), celebrating the brands rich heritage and the optimism, individuality and character that has defined generations of classic vehicles. This set is comprised of four classic Defender finishes, starting with Mayer’s own Arles Blue Land Rover Defender. These guitars will have exclusive hard cases boasting the Defender wordmark, neckplates with the brand logo and that instrument’s color name called out, and matching painted headstocks. Only 500 of each color will be available worldwide.

• Arles Blue is inspired by open skies, coastal roads, and the freedom to take the long way home. A color to match the horizon, it harkens back to when adventure in a Defender became a destination in its own right.

• Willow Green is a nod to Defender’s rural beginnings, where muddy lanes and stone walls were part of the daily landscape, reflecting the fields, hedgerows, and muddy lanes where Defender earned its reputation.

• Portofino Red is warm, confident, and full of character; a reminder that utility and personality have never been mutually exclusive. It is a statement color reflecting a generation of owners who chose Defender as much for its bold character as its capability.

• Sandglow Yellow is the color of adventure, desert dust and distant horizons. It is inspired by iconic Trophy and Challenge events of the past and the spirit of expedition travel that helped define Defender for a generation.
