Only a year after its debut, the Jazz Bass received a new control configuration in 1961 that featured a volume knob for each pickup and a master tone knob—a classic control arrangement that endures to this day. The 1961 Jazz Bass Heavy Relic is a faithful recreation of the time-honored original, with a few custom features prized by players worldwide. The two-piece alder body, hand selected for weight and grain, wears a Heavy Relic lacquer finish. The quartersawn maple neck features a ’60-style Jazz Bass “U” profile, topped by a 9.5”-radius flat-lam rosewood fingerboard with 20 medium jumbo frets for comfort and perfect action along the entire length of the neck.
As with the now-familiar control arrangement that first appeared in mid 1961, the hand-wound vintage Jazz bass pickups each have their own volume control, with a master tone knob. Other features include a four-ply brown shell pickguard, vintage-style bass bridge with threaded steel saddles, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and disk string tree. New for 2023, the Fender Custom Shop introduces the '63 Jazz Bass Journeyman Relic. Exactly 60 years after its groundbreaking (and ground shaking) predecessor, the instrument is loaded with looks, sound and vibe that expertly evoke the Jazz Bass in one of its earliest incarnations.
The sleek two-piece select alder body wears Journeyman Relic lacquer finishes in Aged Fiesta Red, Aged Aztec Gold and Faded Aged Sonic Blue. This special treatment imparts the look of a bass that has changed hands or been handed down over the years, mostly played around the house and the occasional jam session or weekend gig. This generally well-cared-for look includes light finish checking, several "friendly" down-to-the-wood nicks and dings, some dulling of the hardware, and general moderate playing wear. The look of a very lucky find, in short.
The quartersawn maple neck has a '60s-style "U" profile, topped by a 7.25"-radius round-lam rosewood fingerboard with 20 medium vintage (47095) frets and a bone nut. Beneath those cool early-'60s-era chrome covers sit two Custom Shop hand-wound Vintage Jazz Bass pickups that deliver prominent and tight low-end and guttural midrange growl.
Other premium features include vintage volume-volume-tone wiring, three-ply mint green pickguard, four-saddle vintage-style bridge with chrome cover, vintage-style tuners, disc string tree, deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.

The Precision Bass had rightly earned an indispensable place in popular music by 1963, found in the hands of the world’s top players on many a stage and in many a studio. Largely unchanged throughout the early 1960s, the Precision Bass remained unchallenged even when Fender’s new Jazz Bass® debuted in 1960. The Custom Shop ’63 Precision Bass features a two-piece select alder body with a Journeyman Relic lacquer finish. The quartersawn maple neck has a ’60s-style “oval C” profile, 7.25”-radius round-lam rosewood fingerboard and 20 medium jumbo (6150) frets.
The Custom Shop hand-wound ’62 Precision Bass pickup is wound to spec and yields a proper vintage-correct low-end thump, with vintage wiring and master volume and tone controls. Other features include a four-ply brown shell pickguard, four-saddle vintage-style bridge, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut, and disc string tree. Also includes deluxe hardshell case, strap, and certificate of authenticity.

Originally marketed as a high-end guitar aimed squarely at jazz cats, the Jazzmaster instead charted its own unexpected course as a boldly original instrument. In the hands of surf, rock, punk/postpunk and alt/indie guitarists who preferred a more distinctive sound and style, it has endured as a creatively prized “other” stage-and studio preference ever since. The 1966 Jazzmaster Deluxe Closet Classic is a nod to one of the last great original Leo Fender-era designs of the mid 1960s. A hand-selected two-piece alder body wears a Deluxe Closet Classic lacquer finish for a slightly worn but well-taken-care-of look. The rift-sawn maple neck has a ’62-style Jazzmaster “C” profile, topped by a comfortable vintage compound-radius (7.25”-9.5”) round-lam rosewood fingerboard with pearl-dot position markers and 21 medium vintage frets.
Hand-wound vintage Jazzmaster pickups are wired to the model’s signature rhythm and lead circuits, with master volume, master tone and three-way switch. Other features include six-saddle vintage-style adjustable bridge with “floating” tremolo tailpiece, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and wing string tree with nylon spacer. Also includes deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.

The Ancho Poblano Stratocaster from the Fender Custom Shop is a supremely cool Strat with some absolutely cool features. We have only had this in as Masterbuilt models before and these are our 1st team built versions. They surely are not leaving anything to be desired!
Have you ever wanted a Nocaster U Shaped Neck on a Strat? Well, here it is! A baseball bat of a neck is on this beauty and it is not for the faint of heart. A full inch from nut to butt, as I like to say, this is a MASSIVE neck sporting that early 50's telecaster vibe. The result is an incredibly resonate neck that helps provide impressive acoustic volume. A 9.5" fingerboard radius, 6100 frets, 25.5" scale length, and 1.65" nut combine for a great playing Strat!
This guitar is named after the pickups that are installed in it so they better be good! In fact, the are great! I hear them as being a more Vintage-Vibed Texas Special. There is some heat to them right off the bat but they clean up and warm up better than a Texas Special, at least to my ears. I find the top end a little more sweet, rather than cutting, so for those who still like some oopmh but perhaps with a smoother top end, the Ancho is worth a listen. These Hand Wound Pickups are tied to a master volume, 2 tone controls, and a 5 way switch.
