**This guitar is used and in good condition, especially when considering its age. It has been recently serviced with a neck reset, partial refret, pickguard crack cleat, and a bridge reset. There are multiple signs of aging including scratches and dents in the finish throughout the guitar (see attached pictures). Comes with the original hardshell case and original key for the case. The price has been adjusted accordingly.

The Dual Rectifier® Solo Head's release in 1992 marked a new paradigm in high-gain heavy guitar. The MESA/Boogie Bass 400+, apex model of MESA’s long-running and storied tube Bass Amplifier Line, reigned supreme throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s with those looking to upgrade their tone with a Boutique-class tube Head. With a supremely musical tube preamp, powerful 7-Band Graphic EQ, mighty bank of 12x6L6 output section and a power supply ready to deliver instantaneous pitch, punch and power on demand, amazing Bass Tone was a given.
Top Artists from Jazz to R&B, Funk and Blues to Stadium Rock, including Sir Paul, chose the 400+ for Tone, stage and studio, citing its defined attack, clear pitch and exciting, lead-the Band, dynamic content. Now the classic gets an update, keeping pace with the times and modern Bassists needs while retaining all the nuanced Tone of the original, yet without the cumbersome size and weight.
Introducing the MESA Boogie B-800D, the Class D-powered imagining of our B400+, with the sound and attributes from it, combined with highlights from our successful Subway Line of Bass offerings. The Tube preamp follows architecture and ques from the 400+ along with Boogie Channel topography from our popular Subway TT-800. From there added gain and further tweaks are included to achieve an even warmer, tube-enhanced character and further capability for subtle, musically-relevant overdrive.
The 400’s Graphic EQ has been retired in favor of more relevant, simplicity-minded switches offering voicing options proven perfect and preferred by customers in our Subway Line. These include Preamp Gain - LOW and HIGH – a DEEP with bypass and a BRIGHT with bypass, all perfectly positioned on the Front Panel and tailored for adding just what you want quickly and succinctly without the finicky tweaking Graphic EQs can call for. These savvy features are joined by the addition of our popular HIGH PASS rotary control, which allows the dialing out of sub-lows that can crowd a mix or pull down cohesiveness in the overdrive, as well as the time, accurately with a friendly, musical approach.
Further welcome upgrades from the original include SPEAK-ON style locking Speaker Outputs, a comprehensive Impedance Switch offering 2, 4 and 8 Ohm operation to cover your Cabinet choices, a HEADPHONE Output, a MUTE remote-triggering jack, AUX IN and TUNER OUT jacks as well as a handy USB DEVICE POWER jack.
Now you can have the Bass 400+’s iconic tube tone and warm, musical character with added new overdrive potential, mated with the stunning power, clarity and time-domain accuracy of our Subway Line’s top Class D models. In the twilight of the 1960s, SF Bay Area amp repairman to the Stars, Randall Smith, was inspired to start building his own amplifiers after coming to a deep appreciation for the 50s Tweed circuits developed by Leo Fender. He loved their organic-sounding voice, powerful controls, and the way they smoothly transitioned from clean to clip and back again. Standing on the shoulders of a giant, Smith’s (and the World’s) first venture into boutique guitar amplification resulted in a new Boogie® amp design inspired by that wonderful, timeless-sounding preamp. Five decades later we returned to pay homage with the original California Tweed 4:40. Now, we’ve distilled the essence of that tweed-based performance and authentic 6V6 character in a new, more compact format. The California Tweed 2:20 is powered by 2x6V6 Power Tubes while the preamp features 5x12AX7 and 1x12AT7 preamp tubes. Our patented Incremental Multi-Watt™ (Patent 9,917,560) Power Amp, featuring Duo-Class™ (Patent 7,173,488) and Dyna-Watt™ technologies, provides three power levels, two operating classes, and three wiring options via a single 3-Way Rotary Switch! Choose from the following power options:
• 20 Watts - 2x6V6 Class A/B Pentode – Fixed Bias • 10 Watts - 2x6V6 Class A/B Triode – Fixed Bias • 1 Watt - 1x6V6 Pentode, Single-Ended Class A – Cathode Bias
