The Les Paul Music City Special - 50th Anniversary is an updated, modern twist on two historical Gibson models, taking much of its inspiration from the 70s-era Marauder that was designed by Bill Lawrence, with a touch of the Music City Jr. in its DNA. Over the years, the Marauder has been used by artists from Adam Jones to Paul Stanley. This unique commemorative model pays tribute to the early days of Gibson's Nashville production and celebrates Gibson's 50 years of producing world-class guitars in Music City while delivering outstanding value to modern players. The lightweight, contoured body is solid poplar. The maple neck has a fast-playing and comfortable Slim Taper ™ profile and is equipped with a striped ebony fretboard that is adorned with acrylic dot inlays and outfitted with 22 medium jumbo frets. The 12" fretboard radius makes first-position chords and string bends higher up the fretboard equally effortless. The hardware is chrome-plated, including the Nashville Tune-O-Matic ™ bridge, aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece Grover® Mini Rotomatic® tuners, and output jack plate cover. A black 5-ply pickguard holds two Gibson 70s Tribute humbucker ™ pickups, which are wired to an intuitive and comfortable control layout consisting of master volume and master tone controls with black Top Hat knobs and a three-way pickup selector toggle switch. The second difference is in the finish. The finish colors are "Vintage" variations on our standard nitrocellulose lacquer finishes. Our standard gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finishes represent the finishes on brand-new models from the 1950s, while the full-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer Vintage finishes on the Les Paul Standard 50s Double Trouble models are slightly faded when compared to the standard versions, like the subtly faded light vintage aging that occurs over several years. They are handcrafted in the Gibson Pickup Shop, loaded with Alnico 5 magnets, and hand-wired with audio taper potentiometers and Orange Drop® capacitors. The Double Classic White pickup bobbins and Vintage finishes combine to give the Les Paul Standard 60s Double Trouble an elegant vintage vibe. For years, the Les Paul Studio has been the choice of countless guitarists who appreciate the combination of the essential Les Paul features–humbucking pickups, a glued-in, set neck, and a mahogany body with a maple cap–at an accessible price and without some of the flashier and more costly cosmetic features of higher-end Les Paul models.
The Les Paul Studio Figured Top is a refreshed and improved version of the Les Paul Studio and is better and more versatile than ever. It features an Ultra Modern weight-relieved mahogany body, making it lighter and more comfortable to play. The carved, AA figured maple cap not only looks great but also adds brightness and definition to the overall tone and combines perfectly with the warmth and midrange punch from the mahogany body for that legendary Les Paul sound that has been featured on countless hit recordings and concert stages worldwide for decades. The glued-in mahogany neck provides solid coupling between the neck and body for increased resonance and sustain. The neck features a traditional heel and an easy-playing SlimTaper™ profile, and it is topped with a bound rosewood fretboard equipped with acrylic trapezoid inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets. The 12” fretboard radius makes playing chords and lead string bending equally effortless without worrying about string bends fretting out. The classic Vintage Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons add to the guitar’s vintage-inspired visual appeal, and together with the fully adjustable aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic™ bridge, lightweight aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece, and Graph Tech® nut, help to keep the tuning stability rock-solid.
The Les Paul Studio Figured Top is also well-equipped in the electronics department. It has a pair of Gibson’s Burstbucker™ Pro pickups and a three-way pickup selector switch that allows you to use the pickups individually or use them together. Each pickup is wired to individual volume controls, so you can blend the sound from the two pickups in any ratio you choose. Each volume control has a push/pull switch for coil tapping, giving you two different sounds from each pickup, and each pickup also has an individual tone control for even more sonic versatility. Marcus King is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist who is known for his soulful voice, guitar skills, and diverse influences. Hailing from South Carolina, Marcus comes from a musical family and began playing guitar at a young age. His father, Marvin King, is a blues guitarist, and his grandfather was a country musician. The Gibson Marcus King ES-345 represents more than just another artist's signature model. It' s a reflection of his own heritage, a personalized version of the classic model that was handed down from King's grandfather to his father and finally to him as he took his family's musical legacy to stages worldwide. Originally released as a Custom Shop model, the new Marcus King ES-345 is inspired by his main guitar, a 1962 ES-345 that was handed down to him by his family. This modern version captures the look and vibe of his original with only the features that Marcus finds essential, including mono wiring, a pair of Custombucker humbucker™ pickups, a fixed Vibrola™ tailpiece for improved tuning stability, and a stud anchor cover customized specifically for Marcus King. All of the standard ES-345 features that you’d expect are also present, including the 3-ply maple/poplar/maple body, solid maple center block for improved sustain and feedback resistance, and gold hardware, including an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and Grover® Rotomatic® tuners with kidney buttons. The mahogany neck features a Rounded profile that averages .875” at the first fret and .975" at the 12th fret.
